About This Project

Mangroves are nature's most powerful carbon capture system, storing up to 10 times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests. Madagascar's mangrove forests face severe pressure from charcoal production and shrimp farming. Our community-led restoration program works with 23 villages along Mahajanga Bay to protect existing mangroves and restore degraded areas. Villagers receive direct payments for conservation through our blue carbon credit program, creating economic incentives that outcompete destructive alternatives. The mangroves also provide nursery habitat for fish, supporting local fishing communities and food security.
